“He who does not love has not known God; because God is love.”1 John 4:8.
When we think about love it is easy to associate it with good feelings. But true love does not depend on feelings. It is about something much more than what I feel for someone: a romantic love, a family love, a great friendship or a great companionship. Love is often given and received with the intention that ME receive something in return. But what do I do when I have a hard time loving someone?
¨Love is patient, it is kind. Love is not envious or boastful or proud. 5 He does not behave rudely, he is not selfish, he does not get angry easily, he does not hold grudges. 6 Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. 7 He forgives everything, believes everything, hopes everything, endures everything. Love never ceases to be…” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
But then what is love? When I do things without giving importance to my feelings or regardless of the actions of others, this is love. Sometimes I feel like I can’t love, I’m tempted to anger, to impatience, to look for my own good, to think the worst about someone, to give up something. But if I deny these feelings and rejoice, have long-suffering, humble myself, bear the burdens of others, endure all things, then true love is manifested, which gives its life for another and expects nothing in return.
