The Medjugorje phenomenon was born from the testimony of six visionaries, four women and two men who in 1981 were between 10 and 16 years old. The Virgin Mary communicated to each of them a series of messages that continue to be produced today with different periodicity, and also entrusted them with different missions for which to pray and areas in which to carry out their mission. One of the characteristics of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the world: Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe and, currently, in Medjugorje, is that they chose children as emissaries of their messages.
From the first day, they have firmly defended the apparitions of “the Lady” despite the fact that, at that time, Medjugorje was a small town in the former Yugoslavia, surrounded by a predominantly Muslim population.
THE VISIONATORS
From the very beginning of the apparitions, the visionaries, their parents and families, parishioners, priests and even pilgrims were persecuted. The visionaries were taken to be questioned by the police and to undergo psychiatric examinations; they always proved to be in good health. This was also confirmed by examinations carried out on them in the following years.
Thanks to the apparitions of Our Lady, Medjugorje – an ordinary rural parish – was transformed into a place that brings together a multitude of pilgrims from all over the world, and therefore into one of the largest centres of prayer in the world, comparable to Lourdes and Fatima. Countless testimonies of pilgrims attest that it was precisely in this place that they found faith and peace. According to the unanimous testimony of the visionaries, Our Lady gives them messages to be transmitted to the parish and to the world. They deal mainly with PEACE, FAITH, CONVERSION, PRAYER and FASTING.
Parishioners and pilgrims must first become witnesses of the apparitions and messages, and then, together with the visionaries, collaborate with the Queen of Peace to fulfill her plan: the conversion of the world and its reconciliation with God.
