Mexico gained eight places in the latest edition of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index in 2017, which not only brings it closer to the United States and Canada, but also keeps it as the most attractive in the Latin American region.

With a gain of eight positions compared to the previous edition, Mexico remains the main tourist destination in Latin America, according to the most recent edition of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum 2017.

The American region is considered one of the most “tourism-friendly” regions, just behind Asia-Pacific, with a growth in international arrivals between 2013 and 2015 from 170 to 201 million people worldwide, of which only in Latin America and the Caribbean, 90 million visitors are received, which generates six million jobs in the region.

Tourism in Mexico is consolidating itself as one of the main sources of foreign currency for its economy, representing seven percent of the national GDP and concentrating 3.8 million jobs. Mexico has three attractions that allowed the arrival of more than 32 million visitors from abroad: its natural resources, its cultural wealth and the advantages for business travelers.
